Technically, this is a taco soup without corn. The only real differences between taco soup and chili are the addition of cayenne (which this recipe omits for safety) and the thickener (which this recipe also omits. The taste is very similar and if you carefully add cayenne it will taste more like American chili. One thing that's important here is that this recipe calls for smoked paprika. It may be tempting to use regular paprika but you'll need to add more to get the same level of aroma, and this changes the taste profile. It's better to just use the smoked paprika. You can also add some sorn starch or flower for thickening once it's cooked to make it more chili-like.
