Hi Dana, what does tofu taste like? I've been wanting to try it.

Hi Brendan! Tofu comes in different types and “firmness” which changes the texture and a little bit the flavor. Usually the recipe will specify the type of tofu - but I like extra firm or firm for stir fry types of recipes! In terms of taste, you rarely eat tofu by itself without sauces - it absorbs the sauces very well. By itself, it has a earthy, soy bean flavor (like unsweetened soy milk) and a chewy texture. Some people like to freeze their tofu to give it a different texture, or press it between plates to get it to “drain” the water it’s packed in. You can also buy tofu that’s not in water and you don’t have to do it. I love tofu, but do know that for some it can taste a bit weird. I recommend going for recipes with strong sauces to start, and to “press” the tofu to squish out the water and give it the best texture!

Thank you for the very in-depth reply! I can tell you much experience with tofu. 😊 I will take your advice and start out saucy with it, the various tofu recipes you've reviewed seem like a good place to start!
