With so much butter the pastry is very short and quite difficult to handle. I made the filling in my slow cooker two days before finishing the pie. I did as suggested and separated the gravy using a slotted spoon which was great because the resulting pie well filled and moist and the reheated gravy delicious alongside. Would definitely follow the recipe again. A lovely pie.
