I actually tried this with leftover pizza dough that I had. For the filling, I added finely chopped pecans and the optional 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Also sprinkled coursely chopped pecans on top halfway through baking. These came out amazing!
I had rolled the dough too thin, and rolled it up longways to maximize the number of layers in each roll, so it came out less soft than they would have otherwise, I think. But the addition of the cream made up for it! If using pizza dough or a less absorbant dough again, I would add more cream. They came out as amazing cinnamon-pecan bites that went perfect with a hot cup of tea. Did not need any frosting! Couldnt stop myself from eating the whole batch! Lol.
I will definately try this recipe again, making the dough as instructed. But will keep the pecans and vanilla extract in, and maybe add more cream, as i would enjoy eating them without frosting.
IF you make this recipe with premade dough...it definately can be made in 30 minutes. I added all the ingredients for the filling in a bowl and mixed quickly with a hand mixer until uniform. Then spread it evenly with a spatuala over the rolled out dough. Popped it in the oven for 20 minutes...voila!
