I have made the original recipe since I read about it at least 10 times, its fabulous, tossing the fresh garlic at the end is a must, red pepper absolutely. tonight I am making this without fresh basil as I couldn't get any, and for the first time I have to use fresh whole tomatoes on the vine which I've chopped and where possible placed them with the skins facing up for browning. I hope it turns out nice, fingers crossed on the tomatoes.
