Thousand Island Dressing

3 steps
Prep:10min
According to The Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink, the dressing's name comes from the Thousand Islands region, located along the upper St. Lawrence River between the United States and Canada. If you read about this sauce, the number of very different recipes can make your head spin. And here the main thing is to understand what must be included, and what will be your creative variations. And what can be introduced into the sauce in different forms. For example, you can add chopped onions, mashed or just squeezed juice. Spicy and tangy pepper sauces are a must-have ingredient. You can take what's available, like Tabasco, or you can go crazy and mix in a few different spices to suit your tastes. There are options with paprika and of course with smoked paprika. The next category of additives - pickles, capers, green olives. Here again there's room for variation, right? A finely chopped hard-boiled egg is sure to be added. Often coarse mustard is added. That's for texture. Aren't you forgetting anything? Herbs! Parsley and chives. And for a cup of mayonnaise, you add 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of pepper sauce, and all the other ingredients you add from a teaspoon to a tablespoon, to taste. The sauce should turn out a delicate orange color.

Add other ingredients. The ingredients in the list have generic names. My picture shows the one with the brands I prefer& I use a combination of 3 types of mustard, for example, 1 tsp of each. I also like specific red chili sauces — Calabrian for hot and Peruvian for mild.
