1 packinstant yeast
150mlwater
warm
150 gramsbutter

Instructions
making the dough
Step 1
activate the yeast in a cup of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of sugar, for 10 mins
Step 2
in the meanwhile, measure out the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, salt) and mix them in a stand mixer, heat up the milk and melt the butter (must be warm but not too hot)

add the warm milk and butter and yeast mix to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
Step 4
wet your hands and move the dough to a well greased bowl. cover the dough with a thin layer of flour and cover the bowl with a tea towel. prove the dough in a warm area of the kitchen for around 2 hours
making the filling

while the dough proves, finely dice the ham and onion. add salt and pepper to taste and mix
making the pīrāgi

put flour on the countertop/kitchen table.
Step 7
scoop tablespoons worth of the dough and roll into a ball and flatten into a disc
Step 8
put a tablespoon of filling in the middle of the disk and fold the top of the dough down while holding in the filling and adhering it to the bottom bit of dough. place the pīrāgs seam side down on a well oiled pan. it should look like a fat halfmoon

preheat the oven to 250 degrees °C

egg wash the pīrāgi
Step 11
bake at 250 degrees °C until golden brown
Step 12
once out of the oven, brush on a light coat of oil on each pīrāgs. place in a bowl and cover with a tea towel
