Instructions

Step 1
Combine flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl until evenly mixed.
Step 2
Cream together, butter, sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract in the bowl of a stand mixer until stiff peaks form.
Step 3
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the bowl of the stand mixer set to a low speed until combined. Turn off the mixer and Press the dough into a cohesive ball by hand. Cover the dough ball with plastic or foil wrap to keep the moisture in and refrigerate a minimum of 30 minutes.
Step 4
After refrigerating the dough is ready to roll out to about a 1/4” thick sheet. Roll it out with a rolling pin, a wine bottle or sauce bottle can be used in a pinch if you don’t own a rolling pin. To roll, dust your rolling pin and work surface (I recommend parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet) with flour before placing your dough on it. Then press and roll your cookie dough into the desired thickness using your rolling pin.
Step 5
Cut your shapes out using your favorite cookie cutters, and remove the excess. The excess can be rolled into new sheets and make more cookies. Though be careful as reworking the excess dough too much will make for harder cookies. Transfer your parchment paper or silicone baking sheet with the cut cookie shapes to a baking pan.
Step 6
Preheat your oven to somewhere between 350-375 degrees Fahrenheit (176-190C) and place your cookies on the middle rack to bake for 8-10 minutes.
Step 7
Remove cookies from oven and transfer the parchment paper to a cooling rack or your countertop to cool.
Step 8
Enjoy your sugar cookies! Decorate them or eat them plain either way they are a delicious nostalgia trip for the taste buds!
