Instructions

Step 1
Prepare the yeast mixture: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in lukewarm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.

Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, ¼ cup sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add in the yeast mixture, egg, melted butter, and milk. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.

First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Form the knots: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into pieces and roll each into a rope. Tie each rope into a knot and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Second rise: Cover the knots and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the knots have risen, bake them for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
