Homemade hot cross buns

I replaced some of the flour (1/4 to 1/3 cup) with protein powder. I used macro mike hot cross bun flavoured protein or vanilla (discount code: amb-miranda)

Instructions

Step 1
Stir 1 tbs of the sugar into the warm milk, then sprinkle over the yeast. Rest for 30 secs, stir, allow to proof for 10 mins until bubbling/activated.
Step 2
Whisk the butter and egg together in a large bowl, then mix in the yeast/milk. Sift in all dry ingredients and stir to combine.
Step 3
Place dough onto a floured bench and knead for 5-10 mins until smooth and no longer sticky.
Step 4
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover and set aside in a warm place to proof for 1 hour or until it is double in size.
Step 5
Roll dough into 9-12 balls and place on a lined baking tray/skillet close together. Allow to rise for 30 mins until they double in size.
Step 6
Preheat oven to 200°C . Mix cross ingredients together and pipe over the buns. Bake for 15 mins.
Step 7
While they are baking, heat the maple syrup in a saucepan or microwave until it reduces. Brush the glaze over the cooked buns & enjoy.
