EASY SPICY MARINATED RAW CRABS

This is an easy and quick recipe to make Yangnyeom-gejang, which are spicy raw marinated crabs. Koreans enjoy this on a special day out, and it has a sweet and spicy kick to it and it is normally enjoyed with a bowl of rice! This recipe serves 2-3.

Instructions

Step 1
If your frozen crabs are uncut, begin by snipping away the sharp edges with scissors. (it's always quicker to get crabs that are already cut out for you)

Next, scrub each crab gently with a spare toothbrush. Make sure to get all the corners. Run it under cold water and transfer the clean crabs into a bowl.

Slice the crabs into smaller pieces to get easier bites.
Step 4
Then pour soju all over the crabs. And place them back in the freezer for 15 minutes. This step is to disinfect the crabs, while also making the crab meat bouncy and juicy!

Next, begin making your sauce. In a bowl, add 10 Tbsp soy sauce, 6 Tbsp anchovy fish sauce, 4 Tbsp plum sauce, 10 Tbsp Korean red chili powder (gochugaru), 1.5 Tbsp minced ginger, 3-4 Tbsp minced garlic and 4 Tbsp oligosaccharide syrup.

Mix well and set aside.
Step 7
Cut your veggies (1 onion, 3 chilis and 1 stalk of green onions) into small pieces.

Next, take out the crabs from the freezer and drain the soju.
Step 9
Transfer them into a clean, big bowl and pour the sauce all over. Mix and slowly add the veggies while doing so.

I recommend using two spoons or spatulas to mix them, as doing it with your hands may hurt!

Mix thoroughly and sprinkle more gochugaru if needed. When all is mixed evenly, sprinke sesame seeds and enjoy with some rice!
