315gall-purpose flour

½ cupgranulated sugar

½ cupbrown sugar

½ tspbaking powder

¼ tspsalt

1 tspground cinnamon
optional

1 cupunsalted butter
cold and cut into cubes

1egg

Apple Filling

4apples
medium, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mix, peeled and thinly sliced

2 Tbsplemon juice

¼ cupbrown sugar

¼ cupgranulated sugar

2 Tbspall-purpose flour

1 tspcinnamon
Instructions
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 175°C Line a pan with parchment paper.
Step 2
2. Make crust & topping:
Step 3
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugars, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
Step 4
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or fork until crumbly.
Step 5
Add egg and mix until dough forms coarse crumbs (don’t overmix).
Step 6
3. Press 2/3 of the mixture into the bottom of the pan and press firmly to create an even crust.

4. Make the filling:

Toss apple slices with lemon juice, sugars, flour, and spices until well coated.
Step 9
Spread evenly over the crust.
Step 10
5. Sprinkle the remaining 1/3 of the dough over the apples as a crumble topping.
Step 11
6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until golden brown on top and apples are soft.
Step 12
7. Cool completely before slicing into bars. They hold best once chilled.
