Instructions

Step 1
-Place the milk and butter on the stove on low heat and warm until the butter is completely melted then remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes. -In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the active dry yeast, sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon -To the mixing bowl, add the warm milk mixture and one whole egg. Mix with the dough hook attachment on low speed for 5-7 minutes or until a nice, smooth dough has formed. -Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm area to allow to proof for 2-3 hours. -After the dough has doubled in size set your oven to 350*, and dump the dough onto a work surface thats been lightly dusted with flour and divide into 2 even balls. Shape each ball into an elongated triangle roughly the shape of a Christmas tree. Try to get them as even as possible. -Place one of the triangles on a sheet of parchment paper then spread about 1/2 of a jar of nutella evenly all over the surface leave 1/4 inch border without nutella. -Brush the border with a bit of water, then gently place the second triangle on top and press the sides down to seal the edges. -Using a sharp knife, cut each side of the triangle into even strips. Be sure to leave about 1/2 inch in the middle uncut (think of that as the trunk) to keep the whole tree together. -Now twist each cut piece of dough a few times to reveal the nutella and press the end back down on to the parchment (these are the branches!) -Repeat with each piece of dough then scoot the parchment on to a baking sheet. Cover with a towel and allow to proof for one more hour. -Whisk up the remaining egg, then gently brush the whole tree with the beaten egg and decorate it with the whole hazelnuts. -Bake at 350* for 35-45 minutes or until perfectly golden brown all over and cooked through. -Serve warm with extra nutella to dip!
