Old Fashioned Buttermilk Biscuits

Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 450°F
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients together and thoroughly whisk together.
Step 3
Add the butter to the dry ingredients and cut with a pastry cutter until the largest butter pieces are pea sized.
Step 4
Slowly add the buttermilk to the bowl, mixing with a fork until all the dry ingredients have been incorporated into dough.
Step 5
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and kneed gently 8 - 10 times.
Step 6
Pat or gently roll to desired thickness (biscuits with double in height when baked)
Step 7
Cut with floured biscuit cutter or floured drinking glass.
Step 8
Kneed any remaining dough together once again and repeat process.
Step 9
Place on lined cookie pan and bake in hot oven 12 -15 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 10
Remove from oven and place biscuits on a wire rack to cool.

OPTIONAL:

Step 11
Brush biscuits tops with melted butter mixture.
