Instructions
Step 1
1. Drain beans and transfer into a four to 7 quart slow cooker
Step 2
2. Add ham Hock, onion, garlic, Bay leaves, salt, cumin and pepper
Step 3
3. Add water and cover. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5 hours
Step 4
4. Discard the Bay leaves and transfer the ham Hock to a bowl
Step 5
5. If you would prefer a thicker consistency, discard a ladle full or 2 of the cooking liquid. Use a potato masher to crush some of the beans against the side of the pot or an immersion blender
Step 6
6. Shred the meat from the ham Hock and return the shredded meat to the beans
Step 7
7. Serve with orange wedges
