Green Bean Crockpot Casserole

The easy way to make an updated green bean casserole using a casserole crockpot. Jarred alfredo sauce and fresh baby portabella mushrooms make it easy from the pantry and updated to earthy mushrooms with cheese added as a surprise. You can experiment with flavors of alfredo sauce and with kinds of cheese. I'm thinking that shredded swiss would be a great idea. If you don't have a casserole slow cooker, any slow cooker will probably do (just put on a serving dish before adding the final french fried onions). Optionally, you can add 1/2 cup chopped nuts such as pecans to the last half of the the french fried onions and toast before spreading on top.

Instructions

Step 1
In a casserole slow cooker, combine green beans, mushrooms, cheese, and half of the french fried onions. I like to add a bit of ground black pepper in this step. Then add alfredo sauce and mix.
Step 2
Cook in slow cooker on high for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Uncover and sprinkle with 1/2 to all of the remaining french fried onions (or place on a serving dish and then add the french fried onions).
Step 3
Serve in the casserole crock.
