Instructions

DOUGH

Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, place 1.75 cups flour, sugar, yeast and salt.
Step 2
Heat water, milk & shortening to 120-130° on the stove or microwave. Check with thermometer
Step 3
Pour the warm liquids over the dry ingredients.
Step 4
Add eggs.
Step 5
Beat with an electric mixer on low until blended.
Step 6
Beat 3 additional minutes on high.
Step 7
Change to a dough hook and add the rest of the flour.
Step 8
Mix for another minute.
Step 9
Turn out onto a floured board and knead for 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic (can do mainly in mixer).
Step 10
Place dough in greased bowl, cover and place in a warm area for about 1 hour.

FILLING

Step 11
While the dough is raising, brown the beef & onions. Drain if necessary. Add salt, pepper and cabbage. Cook until cabbage is wilted.

ASSEMBLY

Preheat oven to 350°
Step 13
Punch dough down and roll out onto floured board. Cut into 5-6” circles or squares.
Step 14
Fill each with 1/3 cup of meat mixture (can also add cheese) and seal.
Step 15
Place on baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking sheet.

Bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown

Cool slightly and serve, or wrap and freeze
