Red Velvet Cake

Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare cake pans.
Step 2
Combine and set aside the baking soda and vinegar.
Step 3
Combine and set aside the cocoa, vanilla and red food coloring.
Step 4
Sift together flour and salt; set aside.
Step 5
In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add cocoa mixture to this and mix well.
Step 6
Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk to batter; ending with flour.
Step 7
Add the soda and vinegar and mix well.
Step 8
Divide batter into two or three 9” pans. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes (or 22-25 min if using three pans).
Step 9
Combine cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla; mix until spreadable. Let cakes cool completely, then frost.
