Better Than Classic Hot Dogs and Mashed Potatoes

Originally based on memory and a recipe from Sugardale: https://www.sugardale.com/index.php/recipes/loaded-mashed-potato-dog?utm_source=whisk&utm_medium=webapp&utm_campaign=loaded_mashed_potato_dog Offer regular hot dogs along with the sausage for those that prefer or to make more kid-friendly. For a Mexican-style twist, add salsa to your condiments and refried beans along side the mashed potatoes. Tortilla chips can serve as your vegetable for this meal. (Hey, they're made out of corn, right?)

Instructions

Step 1
Cook your sausages or hot dogs by your favorite method. I used a cast iron grill pan on the stove, or you can grill them outside, fry in a pan, boil, or microwave.
Step 2
Meanwhile, cook the instant mashed potatoes according to the package directions.
Step 3
Gather the condiments and toppings for the table.
Step 4
When hot dogs are done, serve immediately. Let everyone build their own dog. I like sausage in the bun first and then mashed potatoes on top. But you can also do potatoes on the bun first and then a hot dog pressed on top. Add toppings and condiments as desired and then top with cheese. Finishing with 15 or 20 seconds on high in the microwave will warm the bun and settle the cheese.
Step 5
Serve with something salty like corn chips or tortilla chips.
