Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350 and grease 2 8 inch round cake pans. Set aside.
Step 2
2. Combine cake ingredients and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool cakes completely.
Step 3
3. While cakes cool. In a saucepan combine Hank’s Black Cherry Soda and sugar. Bring to boil and simmer until it has thickened. Allow to cool and set aside.

4. For the whipped cream, whisk heavy cream and sugar until stiff peaks form.
Step 5
5. To assemble cake, brush syrup on first layer of chocolate cake and add the cherry pie filling. Top with second chocolate cake layer, brush on more syrup and start frosting cake with whipped cream.
Step 6
6. Decorate with chocolate shavings and maraschino cherries. Enjoy!
