Ingredients

1 quartstrawberries
sliced
1 cupsugar
⅓ cupshortening
2 cupsall purpose flour
2 Tbspsugar
3 tspbaking powder
1 tspsalt
¾ cupmilk
Margarine
or butter, softened
sweetened whipped cream
For Whipped Cream
Instructions
Step 1
Mix strawberries with 1 cup sugar; let stand 1 hour.
Step 2
Heat oven to 450°. Cut shortening into flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, the baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Step 3
Stir in milk just until blended. Gently smooth dough into a ball on a lightly floured cloth-covered board.
Step 4
Knead 20-25 times. Roll into 1/2 inch thickness; cut with floured 3-inch cutter. Place about 1 inch apart on un-greased cookie sheet.
Step 5
Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. Split crosswise while hot. Spread with margarine; fill and top with cream and strawberries
For Whipped Cream
Step 6
Beat ingredients together until peaks form. Makes 2 1/3 cups whipped cream

If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
