Instructions

Step 1
Combine ingredients in a large heavy bottomed saucepan and cook over medium heat stirring until the butter is melted. Allow to come to a boil and cook until the mixture becomes a dark amber color and the temperature has reached 285* - 300* Stir occasionally. You can do this in the microwave (microwave safe dish) but it takes constant vigilance and the dish will get very hot.
Step 2
Pour onto a large baking sheet covered with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Step 3
Chocolate (sprinkle on top of toffee while cooling, allow to melt, then spread gently) (use dairy free chocolate if you want Grandma Carol to eat)
Step 4
Toasted pecans (set on top of chocolate as desired) press in slightly (you can use other nuts if you like)
Step 5
Sea salt: add on top of toffee, chocolate and pecans while cooling
Step 6
Place the toffee in the refrigerator to chill until set. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
