Mary always said that the less time you have to make scones the better. That way you won't fuss. Playing with the mixture too much will make them cook like rocks.

Instructions

Step 1
Ideally sift the flour and add the salt and icing sugar
Step 2
Rub in the butter. I found that the easiest way to do this is to grate it then stir it around well.
Step 3
When it is well mixed. Add the buttermilk (or yoghurt)
Step 4
Turn out onto a floured bench, flatten and cut or use a round cookie cutter to make the scones
Step 5
Cook at 190 C on a flat tray

I put the timer on for 10 mins and keep checking after that.
