Instructions
Step 1
Prepare pie crust according to recipe inatructions. Roll bottom crust as directed and place into a 9 inch pie plate. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in rerefrigerator. Roll top crust, cover with plastic wrap, and chill while you prepare the apples.
Step 2
Place apples in a large bowl. Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and tapioca. Mix well.
Step 3
Pour apple mixture into prepared bottom pie crust. Dot with bits of butter. Place top crust over filled pie playlte. Trim off excess dough and flute the edges. Poke a few holes in the top crust to allow the steam to escape.
Step 4
Bake at 425°F for 60 minutes. The crust should be a nice golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool fully before cutting.
Step 5
If desired, use the excess dough to make cinnamon sugar crust. Roll the dough out thin. Spread butter over the entire surface, then sprinkle with a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tablespoon cinnamon. Bake for 15-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oven and cool slightly. Then break into large chunks and enjoy!
