Instructions

Step 1
Combine sugar, sour cream, milk, butter, corn syrup and salt in heavy 2 qt saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture reaches a boil.
Step 2
Boil for 9-10 minutes or until mixture reaches 238F; soft ball stage.
Step 3
Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm (about 110F). About 1 hour.
Step 4
Add vanilla and beat until it just begins to lose it's gloss and holds it's shape. (Shouldn't take that long.)
Step 5
Quickly add nuts, if using and cherries and turn it into your choice of size, lightly greased pan.
Step 6
Let sit until firm before cutting and serving.
