Step 1
Place sliced apples into a medium to large saucepan with 1/2 – 3/4 cup water, cover and bring to the boil, turn down the heat and simmer gently for around 8 minutes stirring occasionally and adding more water if the apples get dry..
Step 2
Add raw sugar to taste and spoon into a medium sized ovenproof bowl..
Step 3
While the apple is cooking preheat oven to 165C fan forced, 180C non-fan forced..
Step 4
Melt the butter in a small saucepan or microwave bowl, add the dry ingredients and mix together.
Step 5
Break the mixture into lumps and small crumbs while sprinkling over the apple. (The apple can be hot or cold when the topping is added.)
Step 6
Place into the oven immediately if the apple is hot. Bake for around 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
