Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour with a pinch of salt.
Step 2
Gradually add water to the flour, mixing with your hands until a smooth and pliable dough forms. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
Step 3
Knead the dough on a clean surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 4
Divide the dough into small, golf ball-sized portions.
Step 5
Roll each portion of dough into a smooth ball, then flatten it slightly with the palm of your hand.
Step 6
On a floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out each ball of dough into a thin, round circle, approximately 6-8 inches in diameter. Add more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
Step 7
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place a rolled-out roti onto the skillet.
Step 8
Cook the roti for about 1-2 minutes on one side, or until small bubbles begin to form.
Step 9
Flip the roti and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes on the other side, pressing gently with a spatula to help it puff up.
Step 10
Remove the roti from the skillet and keep warm in a clean kitchen towel while cooking the remaining dough.
Step 11
Serve the freshly cooked roti alongside your favorite Indian dishes, such as curry, dal, or chutney, or enjoy it plain with a dollop of yogurt or pickle. If desired, brush the cooked roti with ghee or oil for added flavor and richness.
