For the banana bread cake:

1 ½ cupsbananas
mashed ripe

2 cupsall-purpose flour

1 tspbaking soda

¼ tspsalt

½ cupunsalted butter
softened

1 cupgranulated sugar

½ cupbrown sugar
packed

2eggs
large

1 tspvanilla extract

½ cupbuttermilk
For the cream cheese frosting:
Instructions
Preheat the oven & prepare the pan:
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350
Step 2
Grease and lightly flour 9x13 baking pan
Make the cake batter:
Step 3
In a medium bowl whisk together flour, baking soda and salt
Step 4
In a large bowl cream the softened butter with granulated and brown sugar until light and fluffy

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract

Gradually mix in the mashed bananas

Alternate adding the flour mixture & buttermilk to the banana mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Bake the cake:

Pour the batter into prepared pan and smooth the top

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean

Let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting
Make the cream cheese frosting:

In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth

Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating until fluffy and smooth

Mix in the vanilla extract

If the frosting is too thick, add heavy cream one tablespoon at a time to reach the desired consistency
Frost the cake:

Once the cake is completely cool, generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the top

Optionally garnish with walnuts, pecans or a dusting of cinnamon
