Instructions
Step 1
Browned Butter Instructions:
In a small cooking pot, melt butter using a high temperature stove setting. As butter begins to boil, stir constantly until medium bubbles start appearing. When those bubbles are suddenly replaced with rising frothy foam, immediately remove from heat and continue stirring until you see a golden brown buttery mixture emerge. Note: You can choose to omit this step and use melted butter instead, but once you perfect the browned butter process, you'll never never go back. Trust me, you can taste the difference!
Step 2
In a 9" x 13" baking dish (glass dish preferred for ease of cleaning), spread browned butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly on the bottom.
Step 3
Layer 1" slices of French bread on top of mixture. It's a tight squeeze, but try placing all bread slices in a single layer.
Step 4
In a large blender, add eggs, half-in-half milk, vanilla extract, and salt and blend until mixture is smooth and creamy.
Step 5
Pour mixture over bread, cover, and refrigerate overnight. This important step allows liquid to saturate thoroughly into the bread.
Step 6
Preheat oven 350°F. Place dish into oven and bake uncovered for 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes to cool before serving.
