Step 1
Scrub pickling cucumbers to remove dirt.
Step 2
Bring vinegar, water, turmeric, salt, and dill seed in cheesecloth to a boil. While the mixture is heating, stir occasionally. Wash jars in hot soapy water, then dry outside of jars and place on a cookie sheet in oven at 275C. Boil lids in pot on the stove.
Step 3
In the jars, put dill (optional if you used dill seed in brine), garlic, and 1/4 tsp mustard seed, then pack with cucumbers.
Step 4
Pour brine in. Check for air bubbles. Wipe rim with paper towel dipped in boiling water, then place hot lid on jar and tighten. No waterbath necessary. Set jar aside on towel to cool for 12-24 hours. Listen for the ping!
