Step 1
Combine ingredients: In a small to medium saucepan, combine the quartered figs, tangerine juice, tangerine zest, balsamic vinegar (if using), sugar/honey, salt, and optional spices.
Step 2
Bring to a boil: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Step 3
Simmer and reduce: Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer gently.
Step 4
Cook, stirring often, for 15-25 minutes, or until the figs are very soft and the liquid has reduced and become thick and jam-like.
Step 5
Blend (optional): For a smoother glaze consistency, carefully use an immersion blender (or transfer to a standard blender) to pulse the mixture until it reaches your desired texture. If using a regular blender, allow the mixture to cool slightly first.
Step 6
Cool and store: Let the glaze cool completely. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to a week.
