Instructions

Step 1
Brown the beef in butter in a large pot. Remove and set aside.
Step 2
Add onions to the same pot and cook until soft and lightly caramelized.
Step 3
Add beef back in, sprinkle with flour, stir well.
Step 4
Add stock, vinegar, bay leaves, cloves, sugar, and gingerbread (if using).
Step 5
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer 2.5–3 hours on low heat.
Step 6
Remove bay leaves and cloves. Season to taste.
