Ingredients
8 servings
For the meatloaf
1.5 lbsGround bison
½ cupmilk
1egg
0.5yellow onion
1carrot
shredded
½ cupOats
pulsed
1 Tbsptomato paste
1garlic clove
minced
1 tsponion powder
½ tspdried thyme
2 tspworcestershire sauce
For the tomato sauce
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Step 2
Soak the oats in milk until softened, 5 - 10 minutes.
Step 3
Beat the egg in a mixing bowl, then add bison, minced garlic, onion powder, dried thyme, tomato paste, shredded carrot, Worcestershire sauce, and pinches of salt and pepper. Mix until combined.
Step 4
Add oats and milk to the mixing bowl. Mix until combined.
Step 5
Place meat mixture into a loaf pan. Or, to help some of the fat drain off during cooking, form the meat into a loaf shape and place either on a baking sheet or on an oven-save cooling rack over a baking sheet.
Step 6
In a small bowl, make the tomato topping by stirring together the ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. Spread over the top of meatloaf.
Step 7
Place your baking sheet or loaf pan in the oven and bake 55-60 minutes, or until cooked through.
Step 8
Let meatloaf rest 10-15 minutes before slicing.
