Instructions

Step 1
In a large bowl beat butter with a mixer on medium to high 30 seconds. Add sugar and salt. Beat until combined, scraping bowl as needed. Beat in egg and cocoa powder until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can. Stir in any remaining flour and hazelnuts.
Step 2
Divide dough in half. Shape each portion into an 11-inch log. Wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Chill 1 to 2 hours or until firm enough to slice.
Step 3
Preheat oven to 375°F. Cut logs into 1/4-inch slices. Play slices 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 6 to 8 minutes or just until tops are firm to the touch. Remove; cool on wire racks.
Step 4
Melt chocolate and shortening. Partially dip cookies into chocolate mixture. Let stand until chocolate is set.
