Banana Bread
Substitutions: 1/3 cup of buttermilk instead of 1/3 cup of milk and 1 tsp of lemon juice or vinegar; nuts are optional

Instructions
Step 1
Sift the flour with the soda and salt.
Step 2
Cream the butter and gradually add the sugar. Mix well.
Step 3
Add the eggs and bananas and blend thoroughly.
Step 4
Combine the milk and lemon juice, which will curdle a bit.
Step 5
Slowly and alternatively fold in the flour mixture and milk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Blend well after each addition.
Step 6
Stir in the nuts, then pour the batter into a lavishly buttered 9x5x3-inch pan and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour, or until the bread springs back when lightly touched in the center.
