Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180°C
Step 2
Chop up butter into small blocks

Beat butter with both flours and slat until bread crumbed

Add 2T water and mix with knife- add water until starts forming large blobs.

Finish off into large ball with hands

Roll out on floured surface and cut bottom layer (bottom and sides).

Press flat into pie dish, sugaring bottom and trimming edges if over rim- don't stretch pastry.

Chop up apples thin and add a layer of them and 5 cloves. Add another sprinkling of sugar, as the apples are tart

Add another layer of apples and sugar

Roll out more pastry for top if not done already, lay over top of apples and sugar, and seal by pressing around the edge.
Step 11
Cut a cross in the top for steam and then cook in oven at 180°C for 15mins then check if set and turn to 120°C for another 20mins.

Check occasionally
Step 13
When knife goes through apples then take out
Step 14
Dust with caster sugar just before serving.
