Instructions

Dough

Step 1
Make the dough. Put milk and egg in bowl of food mixer. Add flour and yeast. Then add salt, sugar, and butter.

Mix on low speed for 4 min. Increase to medium speed and mix 10-12 min until dough comes cleanly away from sides of bowl.
Step 3
Fold dough into a ball and place in a clean floured bowl.

Cover and let rest 45 min or until double in size.

Filling

Step 5
Make the filling by beating butter and sugar until pale. Then add cinnamon and cardamom.
Step 6
Punch dough down. Flour work space and roll dough out to 30cm by 40cm.

Spread filling all over the dough.

Shape

Step 8
Fold dough into thirds hotdog style.
Step 9
Cut off the ends and slice dough into 12 even strips
Step 10
Carefully cut each piece into 3 strands, connected at the top. Braid and roll it into a ball.
Step 11
Place the knots in a greased or lined muffin tin.
Step 12
Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

Bake

Step 13
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 14
Make the egg wash by mixing together egg and milk.
Step 15
Brush knots with egg wash.
Step 16
Bake for 15-18 minutes.
