Ingredients: 5 large egg whites (at room temperature); ¾ cup whole milk (divided, at room temperature); 2½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract; 2 ½ cups cake flour (sifted then spooned & leveled); 1 ¾ cups sugar; 1 tablespoon PLUS 1 teaspoon baking powder; ¾ teaspoon salt; ¾ cup unsalted butter (at room temperature and cubed, 1 1/2 sticks); 1 ½ cups PLUS 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened but cool, 3 sticks); 3 ½ cups powdered sugar (sifted); 3 tablespoons milk; 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract; pinch of salt; winter sprinkles of your choice for decoration (optional)
