Meat Spaghetti Sauce
5 steps
Prep:45minCook:4h
I made my spaghetti with Ragu for YEARS, and while it was never a bad meal, it does not compare to this sauce! I tried so many different recipes for a rich, hearty spaghetti sauce but ultimately I ended up combining a bunch of them together and this is the result of that. It’s a favorite of mine, so I’m hoping you enjoy it too!

3 tspbasil

1 ½ tspthyme leaves
dried
¼ tspcrushed red pepper
2 cupsbeef broth
¼ cupbrown sugar
2 Tbspbalsamic vinegar
2bay leaves
Instructions
Step 1
Pour the olive oil in a pan and set heat on medium-high. Add 1/2 of the onions and cook until they start to brown. Add the garlic and cook 1 minute, stirring consistently to avoid burning it. Add in both the sausage and beef, brown and drain fat.
Step 2
Take the other 1/2 of the onions, and the chopped red bell pepper, place in food processor (or blender!) and blend until almost smooth (it is hard to make it completely smooth, so don’t worry if it isn’t as smooth as you think it should be!) Once blended, add this to the meat mixture, stir to combine and cook 1 minute.
Step 3
Add tomato paste and spices to mixture, stir to combine, and cook another minute. Add canned tomatoes, beef broth and sugar, stirring to combine.
Step 4
Lastly, add the balsamic vinegar and bay leaves, stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 1-4 hours. The longer you let it simmer, the better it will taste, and the thicker it will get.
Step 5
Once it has simmered to your preferred time, remove both bay leaves and serve over your favorite pasta! This sauce goes great with garlic bread!
