Ingredients
4 servings
16 ouncesshell pasta
or elbow macaroni
½ cupbutter
divided
1 tablespoonflour
2 cupshalf and half
1 cupshredded cheddar cheese
1 cupshredded monterey jack cheese
11 slicesAmerican cheese
salt
to taste
pepper
to taste
For baked version
Instructions
Step 1
Cook the pasta until al dente. Drain.
Step 2
While pasta is cooking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium saucepan. Add flour and stir until it forms a roux.
Step 3
Add the half and half and bring to a boil. Stir in the cheese and remaining butter until melted. Add salt and pepper to taste.
For stovetop version
Step 4
Add sauce to pasta and serve.
For baked version
Step 5
Cool sauce slightly, then whisk in one egg. Combine sauce and pasta in a lightly-greased casserole dish, then cover with bread crumbs.
Step 6
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes; serve.
