Instructions
Step 1
If adding fresh berries, first choose berries that will work well with the Jello flavor you are using, then wash, spread out on a paper towel, and set aside to dry. (We like raspberry best, but any berry would work.)
Step 2
Using the microwave, boil one cup of water in a large measuring cup. (4-cup size works best, but 2-cup is ok.)
Step 3
Add Jello to the boiling water, and stir to dissolve.
Step 4
Once Jello is dissolved, add lemon juice. This will help to cut the sweet a bit.
Step 5
Add applesauce. This is easiest to do using a half-cup measuring cup.... Fill generously, carefully dump into the Jello, stir to blend, and repeat. If you are using a 4-cup measure, all of this mess-making can be done in the measuring cup. (If not, you will need to move to the serving bowl sooner.)
Step 6
CAREFULLY pour applesauce-Jello mixture into the serving bowl you will use. You don't want it to splash; Jello dye is hard to get out!
Step 7
Allow to cool to room temperature on the counter.
Step 8
Once the Applesauce Jello is room temperature, stir in any berries you will be using.
Step 9
Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for several hours, until set. Enjoy!
