Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F and spray a 9x9 metal cooking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
Step 2
Heat 1.5 sticks of butter on the stove over medium heat, stirring constantly - it will bubble/foam, and this step may take about 5-8 minutes. The smell will turn to a caramel/nutty flavor and the color will be a golden brown, but be careful not to cook too long as you'll burn the butter!
Step 3
Remove from heat and immediately add to a heatproof bowl to stop the butter from burning. Add the 3/4 cup of cocoa powder into the browned butter, whisking to combine.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, add the 3 eggs and 1 & 3/4 cups of brown sugar. Use a hand mixer to combine for about 3 minutes - it will be a light, pancake batter consistency.
Step 5
Add the chocolate mixture to the egg/brown sugar mixture, and use a spatula to thoroughly fold them together. Then, mix in the 3/4 cup of flour, 2 tsp of vanilla, and 1/2 tsp of salt (optional). When this is thoroughly combined, mix in the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
Step 6
Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake for 20-25 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes away clean (just make sure you didn't puncture a chocolate chip!)
