Step 1
Place a pot with a sturdy base over medium heat. Introduce butter to the pan. When the butter starts to froth, introduce the onion and a quarter teaspoon of salt. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.

Incorporate the celery and carrot, sautéing for around two minutes until they have slightly softened.
Step 3
Following this, introduce the garlic and sauté until its aroma is released, approximately for a minute.
Step 4
Add the ground beef and pepper. Brown the beef, using a wooden spoon to break it up as it cooks.
Step 5
Upon achieving a browned texture for the beef, introduce the water, wine, and the remaining half teaspoon of salt. Stir occasionally and let it simmer until the liquid evaporates completely.
Step 6
Integrate the crushed tomatoes, ensuring thorough mixing. As the tomatoes reach a boil, reduce the heat.
Step 7
Allow the sauce to cook uncovered for a span of two hours and a half. Stir occasionally. If the sauce appears to be drying out, incorporate half a cup of water. Upon completion, taste and adjust for salt and pepper.
