14 steps
Prep:1h
I have found many variations to fire cider, but this is my version. It must sit for 4-6 weeks, and shaken daily.

Instructions

Step 1
Wash all of your ingredients and pat dry.
Step 2
Shave a portion of your horseradish and finely chop it, or pulse in a food processor. Add the chopped horseradish to a clean, dry, glass jar
Step 3
Next, chop your turmeric root (you can leave the skin on), and place it in the jar on top of the horseradish.
Step 4
Finely chop several garlic cloves, adding this to the jar.
Step 5
Continue chopping the rest of the veggies/herbs adding them in layers to your jar.
Step 6
Sprinkle a few peppercorns, and add 1-2 cinnamon sticks.
Step 7
Cover the ingredients with apple cider vinegar, and allow the vinegar to work its way down through everything, and settle. If there is still room, top the jar off with more vinegar.
Step 8
Place parchment paper or plastic wrap over the top of the jar before you put the lid on, or use a plastic lid (Vinegar will rust metal).
Step 9
Turn the jar upside down for a few minutes to make sure that everything is saturated.
Step 10
Place the jar in a cool, dark place, for 4-6 weeks, and shake it daily.
Step 11
At the end of the 4-6 weeks, strain the ingredients through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth or clean pantyhose/knee high. Squeeze as much of the liquid out as possible. Either compost the herbs or use them in another recipe.
Step 12
Sweeten your fire cider with honey, to your liking. Store in the refrigerator.
Step 13
Take 1-2 tablespoons of fire cider per day for maintenance.
Step 14
At the first sign of cold or flu symptoms, increase your amount to 3 tablespoons per day until you feel better. Then return to your regular maintenance.
