Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Step 2
1. Combine butter and cream cheese in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour and salt in small bowl; gradually add to butter mixture, beating until a soft dough is formed. Divide dough in half; wrap each half in plastic wrap. Refrigerate until firm.

2. Roll one quarter of dough on lightly floured board or pastry cloth to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into 3-inch squares. Beat egg and water in small bowl. Spoon 1 teaspoon fruit spread into the center of each square. Fold squares with fruit spread and fold as shown in illustration, using egg wash to seal. Alternately, spoon fruit spread into the center and fold into triangle shapes, using egg wash to seal and pressing edges with a fork. Repeat with remaining dough, spread and egg wash.

3. Bake 12 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown. Let stand on cookie sheets for 1 minute. While still warm, dust heavily with powdered sugar. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Store in tightly covered container.
Step 5
Yield: 60 cookies. Each person gets about 4 cookies.
