Instructions

Step 1
Prepare the Pork: Cut the pork shoulder into large chunks, about 2 inches each. Season the pork generously with salt, black pepper, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and garlic powder.
Step 2
Brown the Pork: In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork in batches and brown on all sides. Remove the pork and set it aside.
Step 3
Sauté Vegetables: In the same pot, add the chopped onion, garlic, and jalapeño. Sauté for a few minutes until the onions are soft.
Step 4
Cook the Pork: Return the pork to the pot. Add the orange juice, lime juice, and chicken broth. The liquid should cover most of the pork.
Step 5
Slow Cook: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 2 to 3 hours, or until the pork is very tender and falls apart easily.
Step 6
Shred and Crisp: Remove the pork from the pot and shred it with two forks. In a large skillet, heat some oil over high heat. Add the shredded pork and cook until crispy on the edges.
Step 7
Serve: Serve the crispy pork carnitas with warm tortillas, lime wedges, and your choice of toppings like diced onions, cilantro, and salsa.
