Instructions
Step 1
Remove the pits and soak the dates in 1/4 cup hot water for about 5-10 minutes.
Step 2
Measure your almond milk and cocoa powder into a blender. Once the dates are softened, add them to the blender as well, along with the 1/4 cup of hot water they were soaking in.
Step 3
If you are using a blender that can safely heat up food (like a Vitamix), you can blend everything until it is hot. For my Vitamix, it takes about 3 1/2 minutes of blending on the highest speed. It can splatter a bit through the lid (since it is not completely sealed in order to allow steam to escape), so I recommend holding a paper towel gently on top of the lid while it blends.
Step 4
If your blender cannot safely heat up food (most regular blenders can’t), simply blend for 30 to 60 seconds until everything is incorporated. Then pour into a microwave safe mug and heat for about 90 seconds. You can also heat it in a saucepan on the stove.
Step 5
Enjoy!
Step 6
Makes about 1 1/2 cups of hot chocolate.
Step 7
You can also substitute 2 Tbsp of maple syrup for the dates. Simply add all of the to your blender and follow the remaining above.
