Instructions
Step 1
Heal half the oil in a saucepan and cook the onion for 5 mins. Add the bacon and cook for 3 mins. Add the carrots and cook for 3 mins. Set aside.
Step 2
Put the flour in a ziplock bag, season well, then toss the beef in the flour. Heat the remaining oil in the pan and brown the beef in the pan.
Step 3
Return the onion mix to the pan and mix well, then pour in the ale and stock. Add the herbs then spoon the hot steak mixture into a slow cooker.
Step 4
Cook on low for 8 to 9 hours or high for 4 to 4.5 hours until the meat is really tender.
Step 5
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180 fan. Roll out the pastry to approximately 5 millimetres thick. Use a pastry cutter to cut circles of the pastry and place on a lined baking sheet. Bake for 30-40 mins (check time on the packet) until risen and golden brown.
