Ingredients

250gCamembert cheese
ripe

50gbutter
softened
50mlBavarian beer
preferably a dark or amber beer

1onion
small, finely chopped

1garlic clove
minced, optional

1 teaspoonpaprika sweet
or smoked

1 teaspooncaraway seeds

salt
to taste

Instructions
Step 1
Begin by removing the Camembert cheese from the refrigerator and allowing it to soften at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, mash the Camembert cheese with a fork until it is smooth and creamy.
Step 3
Add the softened butter to the cheese and continue mashing until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
Step 4
Gradually add the beer, mixing it in a little at a time until fully incorporated. The mixture should be creamy and spreadable.
Step 5
Stir in the finely chopped onion, minced garlic (if using), paprika, and caraway seeds.
Step 6
Season the spread with salt and pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly to ensure even distribution of the spices.
Step 7
Transfer the Obatzda to a serving dish, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 8
Before serving, allow the spread to come to room temperature for easier spreading. Serve with pretzels, rye bread, or vegetables.
