Step 1
For the Cake

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.

2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.

3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 mins).

4. Beat in the egg and egg yolk until combined.

5. Add vanilla, vinegar, and food coloring—mix until smooth and vibrant.

6. Add dry ingredients in 3 parts, alternating with buttermilk in 2 parts. **Do not overmix.**

7. Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners (about 2/3 full).

8. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

9. Let cool completely before frosting (ideally, remove cupcake from pan and set them on a wire rack to cool for at least 45 minutes).
For the Frosting

1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth and fluffy.

2. Mix in vanilla and salt, then gradually beat in the powdered sugar.

3. Slowly add cold heavy cream and beat until light and billowy, about 2–3 minutes.

OPTIONAL UPGRADE: Crush freeze-dried raspberries and fold into the frosting or sprinkle on top for a bright, tangy contrast.
